On November 29, Leeuwarden transforms into a city full of stories during the annual Verhalenavond (Evening of Stories). All of Friesland comes together to listen, share, and connect. In living rooms, museums, cafés, libraries, government buildings, and businesses, people tell their personal stories — big or small, ordinary or extraordinary. This year, the evening revolves around the theme “When I Was Brave”, a tribute to courage in all its forms.
At the Visitor Center of Leeuwarden, two remarkable speakers will take the stage: Henk Rigter, who recounts a shocking event that occurred during a trip through Africa, and Roos Ykema, who shares her experiences from a humanitarian mission to Gaza and the kidnapping that followed. Their stories will take you on an emotional journey filled with bravery and humanity. And this is just a small glimpse of the wide-ranging program — throughout the city, countless stories are waiting to be discovered.
