11Fountains: discover Friesland and be surprised by the enchanting fountains and their accompanying story.

Eleven fountains in the eleven Frisian cities, designed by eleven artists from eleven different countries. Since 2018 these fountains have each told their own unique story. Together they form a breathtaking art project that takes you on a surprising journey of discovery through Friesland.

One of these magical fountains is located across from Leeuwarden’s train station, a 25-minute walk from Notiz Hotel. Jaume Plensa, born in Barcelona in 1955, designed the fountain for Leeuwarden called 'Love'. This fountain consists of two white sculptures, the faces of a boy and a girl, surrounded by dancing wisps of fog. With closed eyes, they face each other, as if they are lost in a dream. Plensa explains: "Young people dream of the future and that atmosphere of hope suits Leeuwarden in a beautiful way for me." Plensa has therefore dedicated the fountain to the youth of the city.

In addition to the fountain in Leeuwarden, there are ten other works of art to be discovered spread across Friesland. Take an adventurous journey along the fountains and be enchanted by the combination of art, nature, and Frisian hospitality. The 11Fountains are easily accessible by public transport, which makes it even easier - and more sustainable - to admire them all.
